About Teak

Teak is one of the hardest, strongest and most durable of all woods, highly resistant to rotting and almost impervious to the effect of sun, rain, frost or snow. All woods contain oils that protect the tree think maple sap or tea tree oil. Teak, however, can retain these oils and its rubber even after being felled and processed. Because of this, teak has greater naturally weather-resistant properties than just about any other type of wood. The oils also protect the wood from dry rot, fungus and parasites which are common problems for outdoor furniture.
The natural strength of the teak wood enables it to be left outside in all conditions throughout the year. Left untreated, the furniture will turn into an elegant light silvery grey colour. As an alternative, a teak preservative can be applied to maintain the both rich and dark appearance combined.
